Air Transat<\/a> is set to cancel all flights<\/a> from Canada to the US<\/a> this summer. <\/p>\n The Canadian airline announced major reductions to its Florida services in 2026, with the future of the winter flight programme to be \u201cdetermined at a later date\u201d.<\/p>\n Of 67 Air Transat destinations, just two \u2013 Fort Lauderdale<\/a> and Orlando<\/a> \u2013 are located in the US<\/a>. <\/p>\n An Air Transat spokesperson said: \u201cAir Transat is cancelling its flights<\/a> to Florida (Fort Lauderdale and Orlando<\/a>) for the 2026 summer season, with a gradual end of operations in the spring. The flight program to Florida for the 2026\u20132027 winter season will be determined at a later date.\u201d<\/p>\n The airline added that Air Transat\u2019s US routes are \u201cvery marginal\u201d, representing only one per cent of passenger capacity for the summer season.<\/p>\n According to Air Transat: \u201cThis adjustment is part of a proactive management of our capacity, as we focus our efforts on markets where Air Transat is best positioned and that allow us to optimise the deployment of our resources.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s not the only airline pulling out of US routes. <\/p>\n WestJet, Canada’s second-largest airline, has also suspended 16 routes between Canadian and US cities for summer 2026.<\/p>\n The airline told Global News<\/a> a \u201cnotable decline in transborder travel demand\u201d in 2025 was behind the decision to modify its network.<\/p>\n Separately, a partial shutdown of the US federal government could cause days of delays at airports<\/a>, travel trade associations have warned.<\/p>\n After funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) expired on Saturday, lawmakers remain deadlocked over proposed restrictions<\/a> to President Donald Trump\u2019s immigration enforcement agenda.<\/p>\n The closure will impact departments including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), with airport screening services set to suffer.<\/p>\n TSA employees working without pay will lead to \u201chigher wait times and missed or delayed flights\u201d, said US Travel, Airlines<\/a> for America, and the American Hotel and Lodging Association in a joint statement.<\/p>\n
