(MDCR) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">CORAL GABLES, Fla.  \u2014 A University of Miami shuttle bus driver was arrested Monday afternoon after police say he caused a crash while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Coral Gables police said Timothy Kowalewski, 45, of Tamarac, was taken into custody just before 3:30 p.m. near the 300 block of U.S. 1. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">They said a responding officer found Kowalewski sitting in the driver\u2019s seat and requested fire rescue personnel after noticing he was \u201csweating profusely.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">After being medically cleared, Kowalewski told officers he did not remember the crash, his arrest report stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The report also noted that officers observed Kowalewski with red, watery eyes, slurred speech, and noted that he was \u201cunsteady on his feet.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Authorities said Kowalewski refused to perform field sobriety exercises or provide a breath sample, prompting his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">They said he was taken to Jackson West Medical Center for medical clearance before being transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center for booking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Jail records show he was arrested on a DUI charge, two counts of DUI causing property damage, and refusal to submit to a breath test while driving with a suspended license.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Kowalewski did not appear as an inmate on the Miami-Dade Corrections\u2019 website after posting a $3,500 bond Tuesday morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Local 10 has requested a statement from UM after learning about his arrest. <\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udfe0 News From Your Neighborhood<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body__copyright\">Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com &#8211; All rights reserved.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Ryan Mackey\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/https:\/\/author-service-images-sandbox-us-east-1.publishing.aws.arc.pub\/wplginc\/8725e99c-e445-48a0-bd.jpeg\"  width=\"100\" height=\"100\"\/>Ryan Mackey <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-author-bio__author-description\">Ryan Mackey is a Digital Journalist at WPLG.
