A sailors\u2019 Valentine is an intricate and historic art form based on using shells to create kaleidoscopic designs in octagonal boxes. With their origins in early 19th century Barbados, the art of creating them gained new popularity in the mid-20th century and continues today. Participants will craft their own sailors\u2019 Valentine and learn the principles of the art form. Experience is not required. Provided materials will include boxes, shells, other items, glue and everything needed; participants are welcome \u2014 but not required \u2014 to bring their own small shells to include or items for a centerpiece. Pastries and coffee with be provided. The cost is $350 for members and $375 for non-members.
