{"id":159854,"date":"2026-02-18T14:32:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T14:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/159854\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T14:32:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T14:32:06","slug":"charlotte-launches-school-zone-speed-enforcement-system-charlotte-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/159854\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlotte launches school zone speed enforcement system | Charlotte County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Charlotte County is rolling out school zone speed enforcement cameras to boost safety.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase starts on Feb. 27, 2026, with a 30-day warning period for drivers caught speeding.<\/p>\n<p>Starting April 1, drivers exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 mph in school zones will face a $100 fine. Notices will be sent to the registered owner about three days after the violation.<\/p>\n<p>Each violation will be recorded by cameras and reviewed by a law enforcement officer before citations are issued.<\/p>\n<p>If you receive a violation notice, you can choose to pay the fine, submit an affidavit for an exception under Florida State Statute 316.1896(8), or request a hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Cameras are installed in school speed zones at nine Charlotte County schools, including Lemon Bay High School and Port Charlotte High School.<\/p>\n<p>The cameras will operate only on school days, 30 minutes before and after school hours.
