{"id":160150,"date":"2026-02-18T18:46:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T18:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/160150\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T18:46:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T18:46:07","slug":"city-officials-to-discuss-10-million-grant-that-would-keep-everbank-headquarters-in-downtown-jacksonville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/160150\/","title":{"rendered":"City officials to discuss $10 million grant that would keep EverBank headquarters in Downtown Jacksonville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 City officials are expected to discuss on Wednesday the $10 million grant that would keep EverBank headquarters in Downtown Jacksonville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaxdailyrecord.com\/news\/2026\/feb\/09\/city-proposes-10-million-in-tax-incentives-to-keep-everbank-headquartered-in-downtown-jacksonville\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.jaxdailyrecord.com\/news\/2026\/feb\/09\/city-proposes-10-million-in-tax-incentives-to-keep-everbank-headquartered-in-downtown-jacksonville\/\">The Jacksonville Daily Record reported<\/a> that city and bank officials presented the proposal at the Feb. 9 meeting of the City Council Special Committee on the Future of Downtown, where it prompted discussion about the effect that losing EverBank and its 800 employees in the EverBank Center at 301 W. Bay St. would have on Downtown revitalization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The issue arises amid planned moves out of Downtown by Citizens Property Insurance Corp., the Duval County School District and Regency Centers. In the third quarter of 2025, Jacksonville industry market reports show Downtown vacancy rates of 28.1% to 28.8%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Saying Downtown is at a \u201ccritical moment\u201d with several public and private projects coming online, Downtown Investment Authority CEO Colin Tarbert said he worried that having another large employer uproot to the suburbs would hurt the momentum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely a step in the wrong direction, and I\u2019m just not sure how far it will move us back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Committee members and city officials said they were concerned that the incentives would set a precedent that would prompt other employers to seek city assistance to stay Downtown.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI just worry that other people are going to come asking for the same thing,\u201d member Raul Arias said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIf I was in an office space Downtown \u2026 I\u2019d say, \u2018Hey I\u2019m going to relocate too. What can you offer me?\u2019Member Matt Carlucci said he could accept the incentive but requested a review at five years to determine whether it was still necessary.
