TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor raised concerns about the southside of Tallahassee being cut out of decision making.<\/p>\n
At a Wednesday press conference, Proctor explained neighborhoods outside the city limits are still subject to Tallahassee Urban Service Area, where the city provides infrastructure like water, sewer and electric services.<\/p>\n
Proctors argues that because they cannot vote for city leaders setting those rates, this amounts to voter suppression.<\/p>\n
Proctor emphasized that \u201cBlack and brown voter suppression inside the Urban Service Area of Tallahassee must be a priority matter for individuals running for City Commission and Mayoral seats.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cWherever black people live inside of the Urban Services Area, inside of the city, the city has purposed itself to bypass them being annexed,\u201d Proctor said.<\/p>\n
Proctor spoke in support of consolidation of Leon County and City of Tallahassee governments.
