U.S. vessels and tugs with tows may still pass through at any time when giving the proper signal.

Commissioner Ben Sorensen said the change is already making a difference.

“These changes make a noticeable difference,” Sorensen said. “It means less congestion, improved safety and a smoother commute without sacrificing marine navigation.”

The Southeast 17th Street Bridge sits along one of Fort Lauderdale’s most heavily traveled corridors. Officials say the revised schedule is expected to continue reducing congestion during weekday morning and evening rush hours while maintaining safe passage for marine traffic.

The permanent schedule took effect Thursday.

🏠 News From Your Neighborhood

Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com – All rights reserved.

Amanda Batchelor

Amanda Batchelor is the Digital Executive Producer for Local10.com.

Published: February 19, 2026 at 8:35 AM lead-art-block.fullscreen-enterExpand(WPLG) FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The City of Fort Lauderdale announced Thursday…

[17
249,251,250
0":"post-161190","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-fort-lauderdale","8":"tag-fort-lauderdale","9":"tag-fort-lauderdale-headlines","10":"tag-fort-lauderdale-news
["GET
