letter<\/a> criticizes Bondi\u2019s congressional testimony on Feb. 11. It says the testimony was \u201cmarked by deflections and a failure to provide clear, substantive answers regarding key decisions about the review process and redactions.\u201d <\/p>\nThe testimony itself drew wide bipartisan criticism.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hope was that potentially the school might take some action to distance themselves or to disclaim that kind of conduct,\u201d Charles Gallagher is one of the alumni who signed the letter. \u201cThat\u2019s not something we were educated on when we were at Stetson. Stetson highly prizes ethical practice of law, ethical conduct.\u201d<\/p>\n
The letter also disavows her handling of the release of the Epstein files. It says alumnus are troubled by \u201cthe \u201cmillions of pages of documents that reportedly contained flawed redactions\u201d that led to victims\u2019 names being leaked and the protection of \u201cabusers and enablers.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Gallagher, it is also about how Bondi\u2019s platform as one of the most prominent Stetson Law alumni reflects on the current students.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand that students there may be a bit troubled by what probably the most well-known alumni of our school is doing in her role as attorney general,\u201d Gallagher said. \u201cAnd we\u2019d like to provide some cover to those students to support them, letting them know that we don\u2019t go ahead and sanction that we find objection with that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The letter acknowledges the Attorney General position is \u201can extraordinarily difficult responsibility\u201d and that these sensitive legal issues present \u201cinherent challenges.\u201d But it denounces Bondi\u2019s behavior as \u201cresistant to accountability\u201d and \u201cinconsistent\u201d with university values and the principles of her profession.<\/p>\n
They letter is open to signatures until Feb. 20.<\/p>\n
In an email statement, Stetson Law wrote: \u201cfollowing the principle of institutional neutrality on political matters, Stetson University has no comment.\u201d<\/p>\n
