The Tallahassee Police Department says it has made an arrest in connection to a Feb. 17 shooting that left one man dead. Gage Champion, 34, was charged with first-degree murder on Feb. 18.<\/p>\n
Investigators determined that Champion and the victim knew each other and, on the day of the shooting, both were seen entering the victim’s home on the 2800 block of Mission Road.<\/p>\n
Later that evening, officers responded to the home shortly before 9 p.m. after a 911 call about a dead person, police said. When they arrived, officers found an adult man with multiple gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n
“Through investigative efforts, including evidence collection and witness statements, detectives quickly established probable cause for an arrest,” a news release from TPD stated. “After consulting with the State Attorney\u2019s Office, arrest warrants were obtained. Champion was subsequently taken into custody on February 18, 2026, in Crawfordville, Florida.”<\/p>\n
The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, meanwhile, posted that residents may have noticed a significant law enforcement presence in the 1900 block of Crawfordville Highway that evening.<\/p>\n
“The operation involved members of the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Tallahassee Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service,” the agency wrote on Facebook. “At this time, there is no current threat to the community. This was part of an active law enforcement operation.”<\/p>\n
