TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Fresh off his retirement announcement<\/a>, Florida State and Buccaneers legend Gene Deckerhoff was the man of the hour on Thursday at the Governor\u2019s Club.<\/p>\n

The long-time radio voice of the \u2018Noles was honored by the Florida Sports Hall of Fame on Thursday. He sat down with his long-time broadcast partner, William Floyd, for a trip down memory lane.<\/p>\n

His stories kept the sold-out room laughing and reflecting. Gene said he\u2019s settling into retirement just fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the business that I am in, I have been retired my entire life, because if you love what you do, you can\u2019t call it work. So, I haven\u2019t worked for at least 55 years,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Gene spent time as the sports director here at WCTV. He started broadcasting FSU basketball in 1974, football in 1979 and joined the Tampa Bay Bucs ten years after that.<\/p>\n
