TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A mistrial was declared late this afternoon in the trial of Tony Balcom.<\/p>\n
Balcom is accused of aggravated manslaughter in the death of three year old Enrique Evans.<\/p>\n
Evans died in January 2023 after ingesting a fatal dose of fentanyl.<\/p>\n
The jury deliberated for around five hours before telling the judge they could not agree on a verdict.<\/p>\n
Testimony in the case began Wednesday <\/a>and prosecutors argued Balcom, who was not the toddler\u2019s father, but his primary caregiver, did not supervise him properly. <\/p>\n A friend of Balcom\u2019s testified Wednesday, telling the jury that Balcom often dealt drugs out of the apartment. <\/p>\n Prosecutors said they will retry the case, which could happen as early as next month.<\/p>\n The child\u2019s mother, Cameren Evans, has already been convicted in his death.
