To the editor:<\/p>\n
I disagree with R.F. Kennedy\u2019s decision along with his\u00a0CDC advisory committee to remove vaccine\u00a0mandates the children are to receive\u00a0in their young life.<\/p>\n
\u00a0Vaccines as a topic can involve strong\u00a0feelings and different opinions.\u00a0As many of you know our experience\u00a0with vaccines in childhood shapes our perception or perspectives, especially\u00a0as parents and grandparents.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Vaccines play a crucial role in protecting children from serious\u00a0diseases.\u00a0 For instance the combination vaccines\u00a0that include\u00a0diphtheria, tetanus\u00a0acellular pertussis\u00a0and Influenza B, pneumonia\u00a0and inactive polio helps safeguard your child\u2019s health.<\/p>\n
Diphtheria\u00a0is a contagious\u00a0bacterial\u00a0infection that affects the upper respiratory\u00a0tract.\u00a0 It\u00a0can lead to complications if not treated.<\/p>\n
Tetanus\u00a0is caused by a bacteria that leads to muscle spasms and can result in lockjaw.<\/p>\n
Pneumonia\u00a0causes inflammation\u00a0of the air sacs in the lungs that can fill up with fluid and leads to serious respiratory issues.<\/p>\n
The inactivated\u00a0polio vaccine is crucial, one single dose can protect against polio.\u00a0This can protect against paralyzed muscles that can lead to health changes for a lifetime such as paralyzed\u00a0limbs, bone deformities and paralysis of lung muscles.<\/p>\n
Pertussis\u00a0or whooping\u00a0cough is caused\u00a0by a bacterium\u00a0that leads to coughing\u00a0fits that are alarming and dangerous.<\/p>\n
Measles, mumps and rubella are greatly contagious\u00a0viruses with\u00a0complications that can include pneumonia, deafness, or brain inflammation.<\/p>\n
Vaccines are the cornerstone of public health not just for families, but for communities.<\/p>\n
Seasoned experts in the CDC are a\u00a0 grave loss for our country and Lee County.\u00a0 Do not believe\u00a0all the Google tweets, trust your pediatrician, trust science, facts matter, data matters and a healthy child life matters.<\/p>\n
RF Kennedy will be long gone and you as a parent will live your decisions.<\/p>\n
As a healthcare professional, I have taken care of patients with the above diseases, I see the importance of health.\u00a0 Protect your child.<\/p>\n
