The internationally famous doughnut shop, which is known not only for its bold and unconventional creations but also for hosting nontraditional wedding ceremonies, has opened in Wynwood, with the flavors that have transformed it from a cult favorite to a megahit across the country.<\/p>\n
The Wynwood shop, which will be open almost around the clock, is the 25th location for the brand, which Kenneth \u201cCat Daddy\u201d Pogson and Tres Shannon started in Portland, Oregon\u2019s Old Town neighborhood in 2003.<\/p>\n
The famous creations include the Voodoo Doll (a doll-shaped doughnut with raspberry filling, chocolate frosting and a pretzel stake through the heart), Grape Ape (vanilla frosting, grape dust and purple sprinkles) and Oh Captain, My Captain (vanilla frosting and Cap\u2019n Crunch cereal).<\/p>\n
The brand is also known for its Old Dirty Bastard (a yeast-raised doughnut with chocolate frosting, Oreo cookie crumbles and peanut butter drizzle) and its Bacon Maple bar, which was voted the \u201cGreatest Maple Glazed Donut in America\u201d and recognized as \u201cAmerica\u2019s Greatest Doughnut.\u201d<\/p>\n
Partial proceeds from the only-in-Miami Sublime Key Lime doughnut, available through March 31, benefits NAMI Miami-Dade, a mental health service. Voodoo Doughnut <\/p>\n
Voodoo has also created a special doughnut for Miami: the limited-time Sublime Key Lime, a doughnut dipped in Key lime frosting, topped with tart Key lime fluff and sprinkled with Graham cracker crumbles. The doughnut will be available through March 31, with partial proceeds to benefit NAMI Miami-Dade County, a local mental health service.<\/p>\n
Susan Holtzman, president and CEO of NAMI Miami-Dade County, said the organization was \u201cbeyond thrilled\u201d to be chosen.<\/p>\n
\u201cVoodoo Doughnut\u2019s bold approach matches our own in providing education, support and advocacy for people living with mental health conditions,\u201d she said in a statement.<\/p>\n
