TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV\/AP) – Florida A&M University President Marva Johnson attended the White House Black History Month HBCU Leaders Pre-Meeting and Celebration hosted by President Donald Trump on Wednesday. <\/p>\n
\u201cFlorida A&M University has always been more than a place \u2014 it is a promise,\u201d the FAMU president said in the release. \u201cEvery room I enter, I enter as FAMU\u2019s president, in service of our students and our mission. It is an honor to ensure that we are represented in every room as we continue to advocate for our students and their success.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the reception, President Trump brought onstage several members of his administration, including White House pardon czar Alice Marie Johnson and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner, according to the Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cAs you look out upon this sea of Black Americans, this president hears you. This president cares for you. Don\u2019t let anyone tell you that this president right here, Donald Trump has not \u2014 is not for Black America,\u201d Alice Marie Johnson said. \u201cBecause he is.\u201d<\/p>\n AP reports<\/a> that Trump went on to list ways he said his policies benefited Black Americans, \u201cincluding the law he signed last year eliminating federal income taxes on tips and his deployment of National Guard troops \u201cto bring back safety\u201d in cities with large populations of Black residents, such as Washington, New Orleans and Memphis, Tennessee.”<\/p>\n Have a news tip or see an error that needs correction?
