FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 To help save lives during spring break, Fort Lauderdale will have free Narcan, a medication to reverse opioid overdoses. The city also has new rules on alcohol use. <\/p>\n
Fort Lauderdale Fire Chief Stephen W. Gollan<\/a> said there were free Narcan dispensers \u201cin areas where data show increased overall calls.\u201d<\/p>\n Gollan also asked spring breakers to stay out of the water if they are not sober and not to dive into the water headfirst to avoid spinal injury. <\/p>\n \u201cThere will be no alcohol on the beach, unless, of course, it is served by one of the hotel operators. No coolers, tents, tables, or similar structures on the beach. No live or amplified music … No open containers of alcohol in our designated entertainment districts<\/a>. That\u2019s a new rule,\u201d said Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis during a news conference on Friday at the Las Olas Oceanside Park.<\/p>\n Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Bill Schultz said locals should expect \u201can increased\u201d police presence along the beach and other high-traffic areas and enforcement in entertainment areas from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.<\/p>\n Schultz said spring breakers should keep their wallets and phones in their front pockets and be aware of pickpockets and thieves. <\/p>\n \u201cPlease watch your drink. Never leave it unattended and don\u2019t accept drinks from individuals you do not know,\u201c Schultz said. \u201dBe aware of your surroundings, know what is going on around you at all times, please. Don\u2019t feel obligated.
