“Teddy Bridgewater Act”<\/a> is moving through Florida’s legislature. <\/p>\nBridgewater is a current NFL player with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former star quarterback for the University of Louisville. <\/p>\n
In 2024, he retired from the NFL and took a position as head coach of his former high school football team: Miami-Northwestern Senior High School in Miami.<\/p>\n
He was suspended from that position after he provided “impermissible benefits to players.” Bridgewater personally paid for Uber rides, pregame meals and athletic recovery for some. <\/p>\n
He says he self-reported the payments to the school.<\/p>\n
Bridgewater received an outpouring of support after his suspension. <\/p>\n
That inspired a bill to allow coaches to spend up to $15,000 in personal funds on their team.<\/p>\n
The Florida Senate passed the bill unanimously, voting 38-0 in its favor.<\/p>\n
It now heads to the Florida House of Representatives. If passed there, it will head to Gov.
