Sitcoms\u00a0and teen dramas\u00a0always have an iconic group hangout spot. I\u2019d always wished for this dynamic, and when coming to FSU, I sought out places that could be the \u201cspot\u201d in the show of my life.\u00a0I\u00a0even\u00a0searched\u00a0for places that match the atmosphere of my favorite comfort shows.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Like me, many students love escaping into their favorite TV shows, drawn to the atmosphere they create. The good news is that some of those familiar feelings already exist right here on campus, hiding in plain\u00a0sight.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Friends: Patchwork Coffee<\/p>\n
For fans of\u00a0Friends, Patchwork Coffee<\/a> feels like an easy match for Central Perk. The warm lighting, casual seating, and the buzz of people constantly coming and going make it feel alive throughout the day. Patchwork has the same cozy energy that made Central Perk feel like a second home,\u00a0with\u00a0students chatting, studying, or passing through between classes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The couch in front of the vintage box TV, movies playing on VHS, and enjoying a board game from\u00a0Patchwork\u2019s\u00a0collection with friends is exactly what you\u2019d imagine doing in Central Perk. They even have the occasional special event with live music;\u00a0maybe here\u00a0we\u2019ll\u00a0find the next Phoebe Buffay. Whether you\u2019re catching up with friends or settling in with a book and coffee,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0easy to find yourself staying a little longer than planned.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n Gilmore Girls: The Sweet Shop<\/p>\n For anyone who finds comfort in\u00a0Gilmore Girls, The Sweet Shop feels like FSU\u2019s version of Luke\u2019s Diner. The vintage touches, relaxed atmosphere, and simple menu make it feel familiar in the best way. The Sweet Shop feels like a place where the community naturally comes together. It\u2019s a familiar stop for students grabbing a meal between classes, hosting study groups in\u00a0its\u00a0big tables, and signing their names on the walls.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The comparison even shows up in The Sweet Shop\u2019s owner, whose demeanor is reminiscent of Luke. Like Luke\u2019s Diner, The Sweet Shop feels rooted in routine, a place you return to\u00a0again and again\u00a0because it just works.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n One Tree Hill: Club downunder<\/p>\n Then there\u2019s Club Downunder<\/a>, which mirrors the welcoming spirit of\u00a0One Tree Hill\u2019s\u00a0all-ages\u00a0club called TRIC. Just\u00a0as\u00a0TRIC\u2019s events were often run by the teenage characters, Club Downunder\u2019s programming<\/a> is\u00a0coordinated\u00a0entirely\u00a0by\u00a0FSU students. More than just a venue, Club Downunder thrives on connection from its diverse range of events and frequent free admission.<\/p>\n Live music from big-name artists, comedians, open mics, lectures, festivals, crafts, and many more events bring people together in a way that feels genuine and inclusive. The Student Union\u2019s Proof at FSU,\u00a0located\u00a0just steps from\u00a0Club\u00a0Downunder, gives the area the same hangout energy TRIC had. It\u2019s a space where creativity is celebrated, and everyone belongs, much like\u00a0TRIC\u00a0was for the characters who gathered there night after night.\u00a0<\/p>\n Honorable Mentions<\/p>\n Several other places on and\u00a0off\u00a0our campus have\u00a0a\u00a0unique ambiance\u00a0that can be romanticized without a cinematic comparison. Calvin\u2019s Coffee House<\/a> stands out due to its welcoming atmosphere that promotes concentration and comfort. The booths, couches, and large\u00a0area\u00a0provide the ideal space to chill with your friends and meet new people through events such as open mic nights and trivia.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n Black Dog Cafe<\/a> at Lake Ella is my favorite place to visit on the\u00a0weekend. The cafe itself has a calming aesthetic that brings together students and members of the community. The outside deck overlooks the scenic lake, with ducks and geese swarming around people for\u00a0bread crumbs. The Cottages of Lake Ella are locally owned shops ranging from food to vintage clothing. These activities make it the perfect way to spend a fulfilling day with friends.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n Romanticizing college and campus life is easier than you think. Sometimes you\u00a0have to\u00a0notice the atmosphere of places you\u2019ve\u00a0already\u00a0visited and appreciate them in a new way.
