TALLAHASSEE – The No. 7 Florida State softball team (11-4) defeated Dartmouth (0-4), 8-0, in five innings before falling to No. 9 Alabama (12-0), 5-1, in Saturday’s doubleheader at the Dugout Club Classic.\u00a0<\/p>\n
FSU 8 Dartmouth 0 (5) SCORING SUMMARY:\u00a0 FSU 1 Alabama 5 Reliever Makenna Reid<\/a> entered and helped stop the rally, throwing 1.1 innings with two strikeouts. Alabama added its final run in the sixth on a solo home run from Jena Young, pushing the lead to 5\u20130 before Florida State moved Ashtyn Danley<\/a> into the circle. \nHeller picked up her second hit of the day with a single. Then junior third baseman\u00a0Jaysoni Beachum<\/a>, who made a highlight reel double play in the top of the second inning, doubled down the left field line, advancing Heller to third.\u00a0On a wild pitch, Heller made her\u00a0way to\u00a0home plate to make it 5-0 after two innings.\u00a0

\nIn the third inning, freshman designated player\u00a0Anna Hinde<\/a>\u00a0singled to shallow right field and\u00a0would advance\u00a0to second on a wild pitch.\u00a0McKenzie would\u00a0walk\u00a0and then steal\u00a0second base.\u00a0Hinde scored,\u00a0and McKenzie advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Sturgis.\u00a0\u00a0

\nThe fifth inning started off with a walk by\u00a0Haley Griggs<\/a>, and she would score on a game-ending two-run home run by McKenzie.\u00a0

\nMarlee Gaskell<\/a> got the start in the circle and threw 2.1 scoreless innings. Dimitrijevic came on to relieve Gaskell and threw 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit to earn the win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nFlorida State had an opportunity to score in the third when Makenna Sturgis<\/a> led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but she was stranded there.\u00a0

\nAlabama added to its lead in the as Mari Hubbard hit a solo homer to left to make it 2\u20130 in the fourth. The Tide added two more runs in the fifth when Pupillo connected for her second home run of the night, a two-run shot that ended Francik’s outing.<\/p>\n

\nIn the bottom of the seventh, the Noles finally put themselves on the board. After two outs, Sturgis drove a solo home run. Ultimately,\u00a0 Alabama still secured the 5\u20131 victory.

\n\tShelby McKenzie<\/a> hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Noles the run-rule win. It was Mckenzie’s third walk-off for a run-rule win this season.\u00a0
