CORAL GABLES, Fla. \u2013 The Miami Hurricanes defeated the Lafayette Leopards, 14-3, in seven innings Saturday night at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park. The Hurricanes clinched the four game series, with freshman Dylan Dubovik leading the way, going 3-for4 with two home runs and six RBI on the night.<\/p>\n
Miami right-hander Lazaro Collera (1-0) earned the win for Miami after tossing 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out 10 and walking two. The 10 strikeouts marked a single-game career high for the Miami native. Trace Florio (0-1) took the loss for Lafayette, surrendering five runs on four hits over 1.1 innings of work<\/p>\n
The Hurricanes jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 advantage. Brylan West opened the scoring with an RBI single that brought home Alex Sosa. Freshman Dylan Dubovik followed with a grand slam, clearing the bases for his second home run of the season.<\/p>\n
But Dubovik wasn\u2019t done just yet; in fact, he was only getting started.<\/p>\n
Freshman Alonzo Alvarez delivered a bases-clearing triple, his second of the season, to extend the lead to 7-0. Dubovik then connected for his second home run of the night, a two-run shot to deep center field that brought home Alvarez with him, pushing Miami\u2019s advantage to 9-0.<\/p>\n
Miami added two more runs in the fourth. Lafayette walked in a run with the bases loaded, and West recorded his second RBI single of the game to extend the lead to 11-0.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Miami added another run in the fifth off a Michael Torres triple that scored Brandon DeGoti, and stormed back to tally two more runs in the sixth inning DeGoti doubled down the left-field line to score Dubovik, and Jailen Watkins followed with an RBI single to bring home DeGoti.<\/p>\n
The two-run sixth inning extended Miami\u2019s lead to 14-0, marking the second consecutive game in which the Hurricanes scored in at least five straight innings.<\/p>\n
The Leopards scored three in the final frame before Miami\u2019s defense regrouped and enforced the mercy rule for the second time on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Hurricanes will look for the series sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park. The series finale will be televised on ACCNX or could be listened to on WVUM 90.5FM<\/p>\n
