South Tallahassee’s Bond Community is full of history. Now, that history is displayed on a series of markers ringing the neighborhood’s Speed-Spencer-Stevens Park. Project leader Jarvis Rosier was among the speakers at the markers’ dedication on Friday’s, Feb. 20.<\/p>\n
“History tells us who we are, what we are, where we’ve been and what we’ve been. But more importantly, history tells us where we still must go and what we still must be.”<\/p>\n
And for the once-thriving Bond Community, the best may still lie ahead. Bond Community native Dr. Henry Lewis, the first African American to serve on the Leon County Commission, says the City’s Neighborhood First” plan has lots of good things in store for Bond’s future.<\/p>\n
“The plan provides about $15 or $20,000 for new businesses to come into Bond and either get started or even expand if they’re already here in order to revitalize this neighborhood and make sure that the economy of the neighborhood continues to strengthen as it should.”<\/p>\n
