(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.mysuncoast.com\/\">WWSB<\/a>) &#8211; A major winter storm in the Northeast is wreaking havoc with flight schedules across the country Monday morning, including the Suncoast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">At Sarasota Bradenton International Airport as of 6:30 a.m., there have been 34 flights canceled in and out of Sarasota and five flights delayed, according to the tracking service FlightAware.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The canceled flights are mainly to northeast destinations, including New York, Baltimore, Providence, Rhode Island and Hartford, Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Flights to Midwest destinations such as Minneapolis and Chicago are, as of yet, unaffected. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Tampa International Airport has seen 109 flights cancelled Monday with five delays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Snow began falling Sunday evening in New Jersey and New York as the storm moved northward. The National Weather Service said 1 to 2 feet of snow was possible in many areas, along with heavy winds. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials throughout the region urged residents to avoid travel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s been a while since we\u2019ve had a major nor\u2019easter and major blizzard of this magnitude across the Northeast,\u201d said Cody Snell, a meteorologist at the service\u2019s Weather Prediction Center. \u201cThis is definitely a major winter storm and a major impact for this part of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The weather service issued blizzard warnings for New York City and Long Island, Boston and coastal communities in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">State of emergency declarations were issued in New York City and other parts of New York state, New Jersey, Delaware, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts as officials mobilized readiness efforts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WWSB.
