TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Thousands of people visited the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee Saturday for its annual Open House.<\/p>\n
It was a free event that gives the public a look inside the world\u2019s largest and most powerful magnet lab.<\/p>\n
Visitors of all ages explored parts of the facility not normally open to the public, interacted with nearly 100 hands-on demonstrations and learned about the physics, chemistry and engineering research conducted at the lab year-round. <\/p>\n
This year\u2019s theme highlighted books and literature. \u201cBooks and science really share a curiosity and inspiration,\u201d said Kristin Roberts, the communications director for the lab.<\/p>\n
Roberts said the event is designed to make science approachable and exciting.<\/p>\n
\u201cOpen house is an incredible time to show kids science at its heart is fun, and it\u2019s about curiosity and asking questions and doing bold and exciting things, and that\u2019s what open house does,\u201d she said. \u201cIt really reminds all of us, kids themselves and kids of all ages, even grown-ups that remember science differently, that science at its heart is inspiring and fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Olen Butler also appeared at the event and did a short story reading.<\/p>\n
