{"id":166031,"date":"2026-02-23T20:01:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T20:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/166031\/"},"modified":"2026-02-23T20:01:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T20:01:06","slug":"florida-cancer-specialists-and-research-institute-office-opens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/166031\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute office opens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 171,960 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/content\/dam\/cancer-org\/research\/cancer-facts-and-statistics\/annual-cancer-facts-and-figures\/2025\/sd3-21-cancers-by-state-2025.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">new cancer cases were diagnosed <\/a>in Florida in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute\u2019s St. Petersburg Bayfront office, at the new Orlando Health Institute Square (725 6th Avenue South), opened earlier this month. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The approximately 31,000-square-foot space was designed based on the growing needs of the community. Physicians began to see patients at the office in December.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Orlando Health acquired Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, it realized that it wanted to increase its oncology presence and care,\u201d FCS medical oncologist and hematologist Michael Diaz explained. \u201cThat\u2019s when the organization approached us about coming to a new cancer center that it was going to build.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The office has 18 private exam rooms and\u00a0 47 infusion chairs. It also has an on-site laboratory\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with the Orlando Health Cancer Institute, patients have access to a variety of services including radiation oncology, medical oncology and surgical sub-specialities at the facility. These include breast and colorectal surgeons. More will join \u201cas appropriate.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the campus offers PET and CT imaging capabilities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt makes it very convenient for the patients to get all their care in one place,\u201d Diaz said. \u201cThey don\u2019t have to drive around and they can have multiple appointments in one day.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clinical trials are another key aspect of the experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re attempting to identify where we can have synergy on both ends \u2013 which means clinical trials that involve both the surgeons as well as the medical oncologists and even the radiation oncologists,\u201d he explained. \u201cA lot of the clinical trials that are being developed involve more than one discipline because the trials are more longitudinal.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Diaz said that since the Orlando Health complex is bringing various oncology specialists together, this can lead to the expansion of patient programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor example, we have a bone marrow transplant doctor that works in my clinic now and he is going to be developing a cellular therapy center of expertise,\u201d he added. \u201cWe will be able to provide more advanced treatments that involve cellular therapies here in St. Pete.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Institute Square was first unveiled in 2022.
