A midcentury modern-style home on the water has hit the market in Florida.

Dubbed the “House of Columns” by its renowned architect Carl Abbott, the home was built in 2007 on a peninsula-like property spanning nearly 5 acres.

Located at 6610 Gulf of Mexico Drive in Longboat Key, the home itself has four bedrooms, five bathrooms and a total 6,891 square feet of living space. The home comprises eight levels and includes a main building plus three separate wings connected by enclosed bridges.

Stand-out amenities include the six car garage, lagoon-style swimming pool and, of course, an elevator.

Architect Carl Abbott was one of the youngest members of the original Sarasota School of Architecture, a movement that came to be in the 1920s and 30s and was heavily influenced by modernism and the post-WWII residential architecture boom.

Abbott’s wide recognition started with his success in designing the Weld Beach House in Boca Grande. His body of award-winning work has since come to include similarly geometric and sculptural projects like the Casa del Cielo beach house, the Lido Bayfront House, the Putterman Residence and several more residences and public buildings — including a library, a women’s center, a church and a “zen retreat.”

Abbott holds the highest number of Test of Time Awards given in the Florida and Caribbean Region for “Designs of Enduring Significance.”

The Longboat Key home is listed for $22,000,000 and the agent handling the sale is Katy Mcbrayer with Premier Sotheby’s International Realty.
