{"id":167371,"date":"2026-02-24T20:03:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/167371\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T20:03:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T20:03:09","slug":"florida-housing-solutions-summit-again-coming-to-st-pete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/167371\/","title":{"rendered":"Florida Housing Solutions Summit again coming to St. Pete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The city of St. Petersburg will again be home to the 2026 Florida Housing Solutions Summit, which will take place April 22 at the James Museum of Western &amp; Wildlife Art.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The summit will include discussions with policymakers, economists, developers, business leaders and community stakeholders about Florida\u2019s most pressing housing challenges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event is hosted by the Florida Policy Project, a nonprofit founded and run by former Sen. Jeff Brandes to research best practices on some of the state\u2019s toughest challenges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">This year\u2019s event will focus on data-driven, solutions-oriented ideas on housing affordability issues, supply constraints, demographic changes, insurance pressures and sustainable growth strategies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event will include discussions with national housing economists, market analysts, state leaders and industry experts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mhdfirm.com\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/20-MHD-Florida-Politics-V1_1-728x90-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-316235\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Emmy award-winning former Bay News 9 anchor Al Reuchel will serve as emcee for the event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event will feature a series of panels addressing, among other topics, how shifting demographics are impacting housing; insights from Florida housing data; legislative action; reforms and potential unintended consequences; policy impacts on homebuilding; how Florida compares to the rest of the nation on housing; increasing housing supply; innovative housing solutions; and networking opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speakers include, among others, Lesley Deutch, a real estate consultant with John Burns Research; housing author Kevin Erdmann; Ilana Blumsack, a housing policy expert with Americans for Prosperity; housing experts Melody Wright and Jon Brooks; Derick Tabertshofer, a legislative leader on starter homes; Doug Wheeler of Americans for Prosperity; Sens. Don Gaetz, Nick DiCeglie\u00a0and Stan McClain, Rep. Danny Nix; Jamie Cavanaugh of Texans for Reasonable Solutions; Andrew Gothard, a YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard) supporter; Mike Sutton of Habitat for Humanity; and former St. Pete Mayor Rick Baker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Brandes will provide opening and closing remarks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 2026 event is sponsored by Florida Trend, AFP Florida, John Burns Research &amp; Consulting, Lisa Miller &amp; Associates, and ULI Tampa Bay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tampaelectric.com\/reliability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-717315 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/teco-728x90-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last year\u2019s event featured similar topics and also took place in St. Pete, where Brandes lives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolicyproject.com\/florida-housing-summit\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Registration for the event is now open<\/a>, with individual tickets prices at $150, or $50 for students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Florida Policy Project, while also focused on other areas of importance to Floridians, has been particularly focused on housing affordability issues in recent months.
