Fort Lauderdale<\/a> had lost six games on the road dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 4-2 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with an 11-7 win over the Piper Bengals<\/a>. This was payback for the Flying L’s, who suffered an 18-1 loss the last time these two teams met.<\/p>\n

Dave Lopez<\/a> looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn’t given up more than two walks any time he’s pitched this season.<\/p>\n

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jake DelNegri<\/a>, who went 5-for-6 with four stolen bases and four runs. Those five hits gave him a new career-high. Nathaniel Greene<\/a> was another key player, getting on base in four of his seven plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.<\/p>\n

Fort Lauderdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That’s the most hits they’ve managed all season.<\/p>\n

As for Piper, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. Bengals fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against Fort Lauderdale since Monday.<\/p>\n

On Piper’s side, Austin Engle<\/a> was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Engle was also solid in the batter’s box, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season.<\/p>\n

In other batting news, Joseph Cuminale<\/a> made the most of his time in the batter’s box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those stolen bases were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ladanain Mckenzie<\/a>, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Fort Lauderdale will challenge Boyd Anderson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
