The Miami Hurricanes went into Tallahassee on Tuesday night and beat Florida State 83-73, leaning on Malik Reneau’s muscle inside and Tre Donaldson’s shot-making late to snap the Seminoles’ recent grip on the rivalry. It was a nice bounce back win for Miami after its last-second loss to Virginia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Reneau finished with 23 points and 12 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season, while Donaldson added 21 points, six assists and six rebounds. Miami improved to 22-6 overall and 11-4 in the ACC, while Florida State fell to 14-14 and 7-8.<\/p>\n

Florida State beat Miami 65-63 on Jan. 20 at the Watsco Center on two late free throws by Robert McCray V, and that win extended the Seminoles’ streak to six straight over the Hurricanes at the time.<\/p>\n

For long stretches, it looked like Miami was going to win this comfortably. The Hurricanes controlled the first half without letting Florida State completely fall off the rope, then got a huge moment right before the break when Tru Washington drilled a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to send Miami into halftime up 38-32. Washington scored 10 of his 11 points in the first half and finished with four steals.<\/p>\n

The Seminoles ripped off a 13-3 run to tie the game at 57 with 7:54 left, punctuated by a four-point play from Kobe MaGee.<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes responded with a 16-5 run to build their biggest lead, 73-62, with 3:16 remaining. Donaldson put the exclamation point on it with a personal 7-0 run that effectively iced the game.<\/p>\n

The Seminoles did cut it to four late, but Miami closed on an 8-2 finish.<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes won the rebounding battle 42-23 and turned 16 offensive boards into 25 second-chance points. Miami also shot 53% from the field and hit 9 of 21 from 3-point range.<\/p>\n

Miami committed 18 turnovers, and Florida State turned those into 26 points off turnovers.<\/p>\n

For Florida State, Lajae Jones led the way with 21 points and Chauncey Wiggins added 14 points and five rebounds. The Seminoles hit 8 of 28 from 3-point range.<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes host Boston College on Saturday, Feb. 28.<\/p>\n
