Leer en espa\u00f1ol<\/a><\/p>\nJail records show Damien Jones Jr. was taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with the Dec. 7, 2025 robbery. <\/p>\n
Police said officers were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. to 315 S. Biscayne Blvd., near the Miami Riverwalk, in reference to an armed robbery. <\/p>\n
They said the victims told them that they had been robbed at gunpoint by three males while walking along the boardwalk.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest report, one of the victims said he saw three males approaching from behind. <\/p>\n
He told detectives that a man, who police identified as Jones, walked up armed with a handgun. The victim said he \u201cobserved and heard (the) defendant rack the firearm,\u201d the report stated. <\/p>\n
Upon seeing the gun, the victim told the suspects, \u201cLet\u2019s relax, you don\u2019t need to do anything. What do you want to take?\u201d while positioning himself in front of the woman he was with in an attempt to shield her, according to investigators. <\/p>\n
The report stated that the victim then handed over his watch and about $80 in cash. Meanwhile, the other two suspects searched the woman\u2019s pockets and \u201cforcibly took her purse from her hands.\u201d <\/p>\n
As the group ran north toward Biscayne Boulevard, the woman yelled that her keys were inside her purse and asked for them back. One of the suspects briefly stopped, removed her cellphone and threw the purse back before fleeing, police said.<\/p>\n
The victims sought shelter at the Met 1 building at 300 S. Biscayne Blvd. and asked security to call police.<\/p>\n
Detectives later reviewed surveillance video from nearby buildings and kiosks, as well as video from the MPD\u2019s Real Time Crime Center. <\/p>\n
Authorities said the video corroborated the victims\u2019 accounts and showed the suspect approaching them while holding a gun before all three ran back toward Biscayne Boulevard.<\/p>\n
On Jan. 20, 2026, investigators received a tip identifying Jones from a \u201cNeed to Identify\u201d flyer that had been released to the media. They said a review of mugshots showed his appearance was consistent with the suspect seen in surveillance video. <\/p>\n
Police also executed a cellphone warrant on a phone number linked to Jones. According to the report, the data showed him traveling to the area shortly before the robbery and leaving immediately afterward.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, detectives with MPD\u2019s robbery unit and felony apprehension team took Jones into custody. Police said he later placed himself at the scene and admitted he was the individual who pulled a gun on the victim.<\/p>\n
Jail records show Jones is facing one count of armed robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon. <\/p>\n
As of Wednesday morning, he was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.<\/p>\n
No other arrests have been made, and a motive remains unclear at this time. <\/p>\n
