ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. \u2014 With the festivities around the St. Pete Grand Prix<\/a> come a lot of food, but not all of it gets prepared and served.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s where Positive Impact St. Pete<\/a> steps in. They\u2019ll be taking the surplus food and getting it to those in need.<\/p>\n

Executive Director Karen Rae said that before the partnership, much of the food her organization now collects would have been thrown away.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s such a blessing to be able to take food that otherwise would go to waste and provide it to our neighbors who may not have food on their dinner tables if not for this partnership,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Rae said this is the third year they\u2019ll collect the extra food and that they\u2019ll be able to serve hundreds more families than they\u2019re typically able to in the immediate days after the race.<\/p>\n

Still, she hopes the community understands the need is constant.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s one of our biggest weekends, but food insecurity affects families year-round,\u201d she said. \u201cSo we are out here every single week, year-round, ensuring our neighbors have groceries.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is a relationship Rae hopes continues for many years to come.<\/p>\n
