FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A 12-year-old boy is still recovering at the hospital days after being struck by a stray bullet in Fort Pierce<\/a>. Now, police are asking for the public\u2019s help to find whoever is responsible.<\/p>\n

Fort Pierce police said the boy was inside his house in the Lincoln Park neighborhood when he was hit by a stray bullet late Friday night<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Detectives said several family members were in the home on North 22nd Street, just around the corner from New Life Christian Fellowship Church, when someone fired shots toward the house.<\/p>\n

One of the bullets went through the front of the brick home, leaving a hole about the size of a quarter, and hit the boy near the stomach.<\/p>\n

The child was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, where he underwent surgery. His mother told CBS12 News reporter Antoinette DelBel he is expected to be released from the hospital soon and make a full recovery.<\/p>\n

One neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said as soon as he heard the gunshots, he dropped to the ground and took cover.<\/p>\n

Lorenzo Sturry, who lives a few doors down from the house that was shot, said he was at home watching TV when he heard the gunfire.<\/p>\n

“Oh man, it was probably, I’m going to say 10 to 15 shots. It was a lot of shots,” Sturry said. “The way it sounded they was too much, too fast back-to-back.”<\/p>\n

Investigators said the shooter, or shooters, took off before officers got there and are still on the run.<\/p>\n

Sturry said gun violence is nothing new in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s scary because it\u2019s every day,\u201d he said. \u201cI try not to be out too much.\u201d<\/p>\n

He’s just glad this time, no one was killed.<\/p>\n

“Hopefully, things will get better,” said Sturry. “They can slow down and stop all this killing.”<\/p>\n

Detectives are still investigating the shooting and say they don’t have information on a motive or a suspect.<\/p>\n
