The board is confident that under his continued leadership, FSU will reach even greater heights.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The extension is pending approval by the Florida Board of Governors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been my greatest honor to\u00a0serve as\u00a0Florida State University\u2019s 16th\u00a0president, and the\u00a0opportunity to continue this work for\u00a0another three years\u00a0is\u00a0both humbling and\u00a0exciting,\u201d McCullough said.\u00a0\u201cWith this\u00a0board\u2019s guidance and stewardship,\u00a0we are\u00a0immensely\u00a0proud of what\u00a0the FSU\u00a0family has\u00a0accomplished\u00a0together over the past five\u00a0years.\u00a0And I want to be clear \u2014\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0just getting started.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Under McCullough\u2019s\u00a0leadership,\u00a0Florida State\u00a0achieved its highest-ever\u00a0national ranking, rising to No. 51 among all universities, according to\u00a0U.S. News &amp; World Report.\u00a0FSU\u00a0also\u00a0ranks\u00a0No. 21 among public universities by\u00a0U.S. News &amp; World Report,\u00a0No. 11\u00a0in\u00a0Niche\u2019s\u00a02026 America\u2019s Top Public Universities, and No. 2 for student experience by\u00a0The Princeton Review.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During McCullough\u2019s tenure, the freshman retention rate climbed to a record 97 percent, four-year graduation hit 78 percent, and the transfer student graduation rate rose to 80 \u2014 the best in State University System history. FSU also maintains one of the lowest median federal student loan debt levels among public R1 universities, underscoring its commitment to affordability.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>FSU has become one of the nation\u2019s most sought-after universities, with\u00a0nearly 95,000\u00a0applications\u00a0submitted\u00a0for about 6,000\u00a0spots\u00a0in\u00a0next\u00a0fall\u2019s\u00a0freshman\u00a0class.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over the\u00a0past five years, the university\u00a0expanded its Honors and Presidential Scholars\u00a0programs\u00a0and\u00a0strengthened\u00a0its\u00a0CARE program\u00a0for first-generation and Pell Grant-eligible students.\u00a0Nearly a\u00a0quarter of FSU students are\u00a0the first in their families to attend college, highlighting\u00a0the university\u2019s commitment to\u00a0opportunity and economic mobility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Research momentum is at an all-time high under McCullough, with expenditures surging from $325 million in 2021 to $488 million, a 50 percent increase. Faculty submitted $1.22 billion in grant proposals last year, and the university launched major initiatives in aerospace, quantum science, advanced manufacturing and rare earth mineral extraction.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Through\u00a0FSU Health,\u00a0launched in 2022\u00a0with a $125 million appropriation\u00a0from the Florida Legislature,\u00a0the university is serving the community and\u00a0driving breakthroughs in genomics and precision medicine, including pediatric rare disease research and\u00a0the\u00a0implementation of\u00a0statewide genetic screening initiatives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In January,\u00a0FSU opened\u00a0the Herbert Wertheim Center for Business Excellence, the largest academic\u00a0building\u00a0on campus\u00a0and the new home of the\u00a0Herbert Wertheim College of Business, made possible\u00a0in part\u00a0by a monumental $65 million\u00a0philanthropic\u00a0gift\u00a0from Dr. Herbert Wertheim.
