{"id":17010,"date":"2025-10-23T10:25:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T10:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/17010\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T10:25:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T10:25:07","slug":"hialeah-woman-accused-of-neglecting-elderly-mother-police-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/17010\/","title":{"rendered":"Hialeah woman accused of neglecting elderly mother, police say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text text--small text--normal text--primary\">Published:\u00a0October 23, 2025 at 5:57 AM<\/p>\n<p>Hialeah woman accused of neglecting elderly mother, police Say <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A Hialeah woman is facing serious charges after police say she neglected her 77-year-old mother, leaving her in deplorable conditions inside their home.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Janet Edwards appeared before a judge Wednesday, charged with one count of neglect of an elderly or disabled adult and one count of battery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to court records, police were called to the home after Edwards\u2019 daughter \u2014 the victim\u2019s granddaughter \u2014 reported possible abuse. The report says the granddaughter told officers her mother had stopped caring for the elderly woman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Investigators wrote that the victim was found locked inside a bedroom with no electricity, lying on an air mattress. Photos in the report allegedly show the woman \u201cwith fresh feces in her hands and consuming it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis is abhorrent,\u201d a state attorney said during the court hearing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Detectives said Edwards told them her mother suffers from medical and mental health issues that cause unusual behavior and that she had seen her mother eat her own feces on several occasions.
