LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Leon County Sheriff\u2019s Office, along with state and financial partners, are warning against an increase in impersonation scam calls, targeting Leon County residents.<\/p>\n
These scams involve people posing as law enforcement officers, court officials, government agencies and other organizations to intimidate victims into sending money or giving out personal information.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou will never have a Leon County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy call you and say we\u2019re coming to your house, we\u2019re going to collect your money, you don\u2019t have to go to court, that\u2019s never going to happen\u201d Sheriff McNeil said.<\/p>\n
Officials say in these cases, it is very hard to get your money back and the best thing to do if you get a call like this is to hang up.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst and foremost hang up and then report it to law enforcement,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the most common scam call is being told you missed jury duty. Other common calls include a loved one being arrested and impersonating banks.<\/p>\n
A recent investigation found a woman from South Carolina<\/a> behind a jury scam call.
