Just a two-minute walk from campus, Celebrities Hair Design has become a long-standing option for students seeking professional hair services catered toward natural hair. Owner Trenice Seniors, School of Business and Industry alum and former Miss FAMU, opened the salon in 1997 after choosing entrepreneurship over corporate life.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
What began as a vision she built with her husband has grown into a multigenerational business rooted in the university community.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOur focus has always been healthy hair,\u201d Seniors said. \u201cWhether it\u2019s natural or chemically treated, we assess what\u2019s best for that individual\u2019s hair and educate\u00a0clients,\u00a0so they understand the process and the result.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Seniors\u00a0defines\u00a0natural hair as hair that has not\u00a0been chemically\u00a0treated\u00a0and the internal bonds remain intact,\u00a0which is a key factor in strength and long-term health.\u00a0The salon offers a wide range of services including color, treatments,\u00a0cuts\u00a0and protective styling, positioning itself as a one-stop location for clients who want experienced, professionally trained stylists who assess hair texture, condition and\u00a0strength\u00a0before styling\u00a0and\u00a0aesthetics.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Longtime stylist\u00a0Latonya\u00a0Mordeca, who has worked at Celebrities for 22 years, specializes in hair growth and healthy hair maintenance. She has seen shifts in the industry, especially with the rise of social media and at-home\u00a0stylists but\u00a0says professional salon care\u00a0remains\u00a0important.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody\u2019s hair is different,\u201d\u00a0Mordeca\u00a0said. \u201cJust because something works for one person\u00a0doesn\u2019t\u00a0mean it will work for you.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0about learning your hair and keeping it healthy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The salon accepts walk-ins and recently relaunched College Wednesdays, offering student discounts with a valid\u00a0student\u00a0ID.\u00a0For longtime customer and FAMU\u00a0alumna\u00a0Brandi Tatum-Fedrick, who now works on campus, the salon\u00a0represents\u00a0more than convenience.\u00a0<\/p>\n
