Furthermore, the district statement said that while students have First Amendment rights, the Supreme Court ruled in Tinker v. Des Moines that those rights do not protect behavior that disrupts the educational process. <\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.leeschools.net%2Four_schools%2Fcode_of_conduct&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cmbraun%40wgcu.org%7C6ae98bb8661844a8a77408de7579cb1a%7Cf7a5a4ef4ffa4c80bfb3c12e28872099%7C0%7C0%7C639077363224315248%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=bEh3k0x7miNAoOdKCxEY9w70mGR1K9x%2FjQR7cuEasoQ%3D&amp;reserved=0\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u00a0Student Code of Conduct<\/a> prohibits disruptive actions such as walking out of class, leaving campus without permission, and refusing to follow staff directives.<\/p>\n<p>The district said there were 2,480 students identified as participating in disruptive behaviors including:<\/p>\n<p>2,037 skipping class or tardy to class<\/p>\n<p>393 safety violations<\/p>\n<p>50 insubordination\/disrespect<\/p>\n<p>The disruptive behaviors resulted in the following disciplinary actions which was determined by the level of the offense and a student\u2019s behavioral history.<\/p>\n<p>11 recommendations for reassignment to Success Academy134 out-of-school suspensions40 in-school suspensions\u00a043 student conferences7 parent meetings208 other Level III interventions including but not limited to:<br \/>Behavior contractsExtra-curricular suspensionsLoss of privilegesRestitution2,037 warnings and\/or zeroes on assignments<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe safety and security of our schools is our top priority,\u201d said Superintendent Dr. Denise Carlin. \u201cNinety-six percent of our students adhered to the Student Code of Conduct by remaining in class and focused on their education during the protests.
