A SPOKESPERSON TOLD US THE CARS USE PUBLIC SPACES TO AVOID UNNECESSARY CONGESTION ON THE ROADS. WAYMO CARS WILL FIND A LEGAL PARKING SPOT AND CHILL OUT THERE UNTIL THEY\u2019RE TASKED. AND SO YOU MAY SEE CARS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD IN A LEGAL PARKING SPOT. BUT WE ACTUALLY LISTEN TO NEIGHBORHOOD FEEDBACK AND SAY, HEY, IF IT\u2019S TOO BUSY OR THERE\u2019S TOO MANY OF THEM, WE\u2019LL MAKE CHANGES ON OUR END TO DO THAT. WAYMO ALSO SAYS THEY DO HAVE A DEPOT IN ORLANDO FOR MAINTENANCE, BUT ONCE IT\u2019S OUT ON THE ROAD, IT\u2019S THERE UNTIL IT NEEDS TO CHARGE. STONE BELIEVES THE COMPANY SHOULD DO MORE. \t\tEditorial Standards \u24d8<\/a><\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\tDriverless cars have become a common sight on the roads of Orlando, with Waymo officially launching its service this week, but some homeowners are concerned about where these cars park while waiting for rides.Emma Stone, an Orlando resident, described the parked cars as “an eyesore” and “annoying.”Stone said her main complaint is about the location where Waymo cars park.”It went from one Waymo to two, to three. They would all park in a line when we’re entering the neighborhood,” Stone said. “I just don’t think it’s really the safest thing to be in a neighborhood.”In response to these concerns, a Waymo spokesperson explained that the cars use public spaces to avoid unnecessary congestion on the roads.”The Waymo cars will find a legal parking spot and chill out there until they’re tasked,” said Mark Lewis, a Waymo spokesperson. “And so you may see cars in your neighborhood in a legal parking spot, but we actually listen to neighborhood feedback and say, hey, if it’s too busy or there’s too many of them, we’ll make changes in our end to do that.”Waymo also mentioned that they have a depot in Orlando for maintenance, but once a car is out, it remains parked until it needs to charge. Stone believes the company should take further action.”I would like to see Waymo parking lots like Waymo actually investing in a commercial space to park.
