In the video, the driver appears to approach the intersection without coming to a complete stop, despite clearly marked signage warning motorists of the stop sign ahead.\u201cPeople still break the law a lot,\u201d said Justin Rodriguez, a Cape Coral resident familiar with the area.Leandro Guevara, who also lives in Cape Coral, said he was not surprised by what he saw.\u201cI seen it happen,\u201d Guevara said. \u201cI\u2019ve seen people blow a stop sign multiple times.\u201dKevin Holt, who recorded the incident on his dashcam and shared the footage, said he does not understand why the driver failed to stop.\u201cI definitely am tired of the traffic around here,\u201d Holt said. \u201cPeople just need to be more aware.\u201dCape Coral police reviewed the dashcam footage and said the driver\u2019s actions could have led to a serious crash.\u201cThe way this driver was driving could\u2019ve easily caused a major crash,\u201d said Mercedes Simonds, public affairs officer for the Cape Coral Police Department. \u201cTraffic is obviously a huge concern for everyone on Cape Coral, ourselves included. If everybody does their part to be a safe driver and look out for other drivers who might not be safe, then we can try to make the roads safer overall for everyone.\u201dPolice said they frequently respond to crashes caused by speeding and aggressive driving, and they consider running a stop sign to fall within that category.
