TAMPA, Fla. \u2014\u00a0A Tampa millennial is digging into Tampa Bay\u2019s Black history and sharing her research citywide.<\/p>\n

Ashley Morrow gives Black history lessons during Tampa\u2019s city council meetings \u201cEverytime it\u2019s like, this is what the lesson is today,\u201d Morrow said. \u201cGotta turn it on. But I\u2019m only speaking for three minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n She started the citywide teachings last summer. After seeing other people speak about whatever they wanted, Morrow decided she could do the same. And it\u2019s been a hit.<\/p>\n \u201cI try to be as accurate as possible,\u201d Morrow said.<\/p>\n \u201cI think what she\u2019s doing is a public service,\u201d said Tampa councilman Charlie Miranda.<\/p>\n Morrow said she became interested in local Black history after digging into her family\u2019s background. In her bookbag, she has binders filled with newspaper clippings and records.<\/p>\n As a fifth generation Tampanian, Morrow said she\u2019s committed to teaching people about the role African Americans have played in the Bay area. And she\u2019s learned something too.<\/p>\n \u201cIt taught me that Tampa was a space for a lot of Black leadership that I did not know about,\u201d Morrow said.<\/p>\n After the city council meetings, Morrow posts her three-minute history lessons on social media so there\u2019s a permanent record.
