{"id":171511,"date":"2026-02-27T14:33:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:33:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/171511\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T14:33:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T14:33:07","slug":"2480-students-disciplined-for-disruptive-behaviors-in-anti-ice-walkouts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/171511\/","title":{"rendered":"2,480 students disciplined for \u2018disruptive behaviors\u2019 in anti-ICE walkouts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Denise Carlin<\/p>\n<p>The School District of Lee County released disciplinary actions taken against 2,480 students it identified as participating in \u201cdisruptive behaviors\u201d related to anti-ICE walkouts that took place Feb. 4-6.<\/p>\n<p>Behaviors cited were:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 2,037 skipping class or tardy to class<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 393 safety violations<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 50 insubordination\/disrespect<\/p>\n<p>The disruptive behaviors resulted in the following disciplinary actions with discipline determined by the level of the offense and a student\u2019s behavioral history, the district said in a release issued late Thursday. <\/p>\n<p>\u2022 11 recommendations for reassignment to Success Academy <\/p>\n<p>\u2022 134 out-of-school suspensions<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 40 in-school suspensions<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 43 student conferences<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 7 parent meetings<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 208 other Level III interventions including but not limited to:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Behavior contracts<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Extra-curricular suspensions<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Loss of privileges<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Restitution <\/p>\n<p>\u2022 2,037 warnings and\/or zeroes on assignments<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe safety and security of our schools is our top priority,\u201d said Superintendent Dr. Denise Carlin in the statement.  \u201cNinety-six percent of our students adhered to the Student Code of Conduct by remaining in class and focused on their education during the protests. We are proud of the choice they made. We are also grateful to our students\u2019 families for supporting the priorities of our school district and for reinforcing our behavioral expectations.  Together, we can ensure a safe learning environment for all students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The district previously said violations occurred at North Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Mariner and Ida Baker High schools.<\/p>\n<p>The district reiterated the policy allied to the student actions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe School District of Lee County does not tolerate disruptions to the educational environment. We have completed our review and disciplinary process for the walkouts that occurred February 4-6, 2026, the release states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile students have First Amendment rights, the Supreme Court ruled in Tinker v. Des Moines that those rights do not protect behavior that disrupts the educational process.
