The No. 17 Miami Hurricanes baseball team\u2019s series finale against the No. 10 Florida Gators on Sunday has been canceled due to inclement weather in the area.<\/p>\n
First pitch was initially scheduled for 1 p.m., with the game set to be streamed on ACC Network Xtra. A new start time has not yet been announced.<\/p>\n
Fans were asked to clear the stands at 12:20 p.m due to lightning around Mark Light Field. The tarp was put over the infield at 12:45 p.m. as rain began to pick up.<\/p>\n
Miami head coach J.D. Arteatga and Florida coach Kevin O\u2019Sullivan convened at 1:30 p.m., as heavy rain continued to fall and lightning continued to strike, and mutually agreed to call off the finale.<\/p>\n
The forecast shows potential rain around the Coral Gables area throughout the afternoon Sunday.<\/p>\n
NCAA rules say that the field needs to be cleared for at least 30 minutes following any lightning strike within an 8-mile radius of the field. That clock restarts with every subsequent lightning strike.<\/p>\n
Miami (10-2) dropped the first two games of the series to Florida (11-1), falling 7-2 on Friday and 8-4 on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Hurricanes next host Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday (6 p.m., ACC Network Xtra) and then open Atlantic Coast Conference play against Boston College with a three-game weekend series. Those games have start times of 7 p.m. Friday, 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. All will be streamed on ACC Network Xtra.<\/p>\n
