ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Florida gas prices face uncertainty as crude oil prices<\/a> climbed to over $71 a barrel, according to AAA.<\/p>\n

AAA on Monday said the last time oil prices settled this high was in June 2025. The average price per gallon in Florida on Sunday was $2.89.<\/p>\n

\u201cAAA does not predict gas prices, and it is still too early to know how much of an impact rising oil prices will ultimately have at the pump,\u201d said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA. \u201cHowever, higher crude oil costs typically lead to higher gas prices, so we\u2019ll be watching the market closely over the coming days.\u201d<\/p>\n

Traders are betting the war will disrupt oil supplies from Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East. Attacks throughout the region, including on two vessels traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf, have constrained oil exports to the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoughly one-fifth of global oil and LNG (liquefied natural gas) flows squeeze through the Strait of Hormuz. This is not an obscure canal. It is the aorta of the global energy system,\u201d Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management said in a commentary.<\/p>\n

A prolonged war would likely result in higher prices for other fuels and gasoline and could cascade throughout the global economy, adding to production costs overall.<\/p>\n

AAA said that despite the Iran conflict, gas prices were already following a season pattern when refineries \u201cbegin the switch to summer-blend gasoline, which includes more expensive additives to limit evaporation in warmer temperatures. Gas demand also tends to rise as spring break travel ramps up.\u201d<\/p>\n
