{"id":176055,"date":"2026-03-03T06:56:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T06:56:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/176055\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T06:56:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T06:56:17","slug":"randy-wyse-nominated-for-jea-board-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/176055\/","title":{"rendered":"Randy Wyse nominated for JEA Board opening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jacksonville City Council President\u00a0Kevin Carrico is looking to bring in a fire union head to help put out the fires at the city\u2019s utility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Carrico announced the nomination of former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jaff122.org\/about\/presidents-message\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Jacksonville Association of Fire Fighters<\/a> President Randy Wyse to join the JEA Board of Directors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRandy Wyse is a proven leader who has dedicated his life to public service, both in uniform and in leadership roles advocating for Jacksonville\u2019s firefighters and their families,\u201d Carrico said. \u201cOver more than three decades with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Randy advanced through the ranks and eventually served as President of the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters Local 122, where he was re-elected by his peers multiple times \u2014 a testament to the respect he commands, and the trust placed in him by his colleagues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIn that capacity,\u201d Carrico added, \u201cRandy has balanced organizational leadership with a commitment to fiscal responsibility, negotiation, and accountability. That blend of operational insight and institutional experience is exactly what Jacksonville needs on the JEA Board \u2014 to bring stability to our utility, ensure the utmost transparency, fight for lower rates and remain focused on serving the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wyse said it was a \u201cdeep honor\u201d to be nominated.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/helios.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-772863 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/25HLS035-General-Web-Ad-FL-Politics-728\u00d790.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThroughout my 32-year career with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and in my union leadership roles, my focus has always been clear: serve the community faithfully, advocate for transparency and accountability, and work collaboratively to solve complex problems,\u201d Wyse said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf confirmed, I will bring that same ethic to the JEA Board \u2014 ensuring that the voices of residents, workers, and ratepayers are heard, respected, and reflected in the decisions that impact our city\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wyse\u2019s nomination is likely to be less controversial than the process surrounding Carrico\u2019s previous pick, his boss at his day job who has withdrawn himself from consideration after the kerfuffle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last month, Carrico reached out to JEA Board member <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jea.com\/about\/media_relations\/2025_01_28_csx_executive_arthur_adams_joins_jea_board_of_directors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Arthur Adams Jr.<\/a>\u00a0to urge him to step down, saying that he owed a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2026\/02\/25\/jacksonville-city-council-president-issued-subpoena-after-controversial-big-favor-text-sent-to-jea-board-member\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer nofollow\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">big favor<\/a>\u201d to his intended appointee, the CEO of Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida, Paul Martinez.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The outcry has led to an investigation from the 4th Circuit State Attorney\u2019s Office, with communications sought between Carrico and Board members, former JEA Chief of Staff Kurtis Wilson, and Martinez relating to a potential Board appointment.
