JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 If you\u2019re running the annual Gate River Run \u2014 or just planning to be downtown \u2014 this year comes with major changes.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re breaking down what you need to know before race day with the help of longtime race director Doug Alred.<\/p>\n
Start, finish lines different<\/p>\n
Because of ongoing construction around EverBank Stadium, the start and finish lines are not in their usual spots.<\/p>\n
Double-check your race email and the official course map so you know exactly where you need to be.<\/p>\n
Plan for shuttles<\/p>\n
With the start and finish separated, runners will need to use shuttles to get back and forth.<\/p>\n
Know where to park<\/p>\n
Know where shuttle pickup\/drop-off is located<\/p>\n
Build in extra time for the shuttle ride<\/p>\n
Arrive earlier than usual<\/p>\n
Organizers are strongly encouraging runners to get there earlier than in past years due to:<\/p>\n
Traffic<\/p>\n
Parking adjustments<\/p>\n
Shuttle lines<\/p>\n
Larger crowds navigating new logistics<\/p>\n
If you normally cut it close, this is NOT the year to do it.<\/p>\n
Expo has moved<\/p>\n
The race expo is in Mandarin this year instead of downtown.<\/p>\n
Pick up your bib early<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t wait until the last minute<\/p>\n
Confirm location and hours before heading out<\/p>\n
Expect road closures<\/p>\n
Even if you\u2019re not running, downtown traffic will be impacted.<\/p>\n
Check detours and allow extra drive time Saturday morning.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s staying the same<\/p>\n
Despite the changes:<\/p>\n
It\u2019s still one of the largest 15Ks in the country<\/p>\n
The energy is electric<\/p>\n
The bridges are still a challenge<\/p>\n
