The bustling arts culture of New York City comes to Orlando as the jukebox musical Hell\u2019s Kitchen opens at the Dr. Phillips Center. The Broadway musical is inspired by the life and music of chart-topper Alicia Keys, taking the audience to that vibrant neighborhood circa 1990s NYC. <\/p>\n

This coming-of-age story follows Ali, a semi-autobiographical teen based on Keys. Ali dreams of becoming a musician while butting heads with a mother who seemingly doesn\u2019t understand her. The story hits a peak as Ali meets a street drummer who opens her eyes to the sounds of the city and helps her find her voice. Keys said that producing Hell\u2019s Kitchen stemmed from a desire to bring diverse stories to the theater that go beyond racial stereotypes. <\/p>\n

The musical features songs from Keys\u2019 expansive repertoire like\u00a0 \u201cIf I Ain\u2019t Got You,\u201d \u201cGirl on Fire,\u201d \u201cFallin\u2019\u201d and \u201cEmpire State of Mind.\u201d Additionally, the show features three new songs: \u201cThe River,\u201d \u201cSeventeen\u201d and \u201cKaleidoscope,\u201d tailored to Ali\u2019s story.\u00a0 Hometown paper the New York Times praised Hell\u2019s Kitchen as a \u201cmust-see,\u201d so take that for what you will. <\/p>\n
