{"id":1772,"date":"2025-10-14T07:59:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T07:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/1772\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T07:59:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T07:59:15","slug":"hialeah-councilman-pushes-10-property-tax-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/1772\/","title":{"rendered":"Hialeah councilman pushes 10% property tax cut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">HIALEAH, Fla.  \u2014 A Hialeah city councilman is proposing a 10% millage reduction that would significantly decrease property taxes for residents \u2014 far greater than the 1% cut floated by the interim mayor just two weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/espanol\/2025\/09\/09\/concejal-de-hialeah-propone-una-reduccion-del-10-en-el-impuesto-predial\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/espanol\/2025\/09\/09\/concejal-de-hialeah-propone-una-reduccion-del-10-en-el-impuesto-predial\/\">Leer en espa\u00f1ol<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The proposal comes one day ahead of the city\u2019s first budget reading. Councilman Jes\u00fas Tundidor, who is running for mayor, says he\u2019s found the money to make it work by pausing certain city projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis year is a tough year for everyone,\u201d Tundidor said, citing rising costs for electricity, water, sewer and home insurance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cA 10% reduction in our millage rate and that (equates) to over $200 a year,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The cut would leave a $13 million gap in the city\u2019s budget. Tundidor says part of that money could be recovered by scaling back on capital improvement projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIdentifying certain projects we don\u2019t need, that we don\u2019t need at this moment, that aren\u2019t urgent \u2026 hopefully anywhere between 5-6 million dollars,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The rest, he says, would come from the water and sewer budget \u2014 despite Miami-Dade County recently passing along increased fees to Hialeah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Miami-Dade Property Appraiser Tom\u00e1s Regalado backed the idea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cPeople want tax relief,\u201d Regalado said, adding, \u201cwe believe cities should follow the path Hialeah may be taking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The proposal also echoes Florida Gov.
