DCPS says renewing it would generate about $121 million a year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to the district, the millage has funded annual salary supplements for teachers ranging from $7,730 to $9,370, which DCPS says equals roughly $62 million each year dedicated directly to teachers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A Duval County parent, Jamie Travis-Leonard, told News4JAX she supports keeping the tax in place, pointing to the importance of having well-paid teachers and safe schools.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThey deserve to be safe and secure while teaching and continuing to grow the future,\u201d Travis-Leonard said. \u201cIf we don\u2019t have competent, well-paid teachers, we won\u2019t have those jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The district estimates the current millage provides about $12 million annually for arts and athletics combined, including:<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Arts program investments, according to DCPS:<\/p>\n<p>10-stage floors and seating renovations scheduled<\/p>\n<p>10 high school band uniforms<\/p>\n<p>32 lighting and sound upgrades<\/p>\n<p>2 recording studios<\/p>\n<p>233 teachers receiving direct classroom support<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Athletics program investments, according to DCPS:<\/p>\n<p>12 playgrounds<\/p>\n<p>11 bleachers<\/p>\n<p>8 tracks<\/p>\n<p>6 turf fields<\/p>\n<p>6 scoreboards<\/p>\n<p>6 female facility upgrades<\/p>\n<p>5 tennis courts<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">In addition to the millage discussion, the school board is expected to vote on items connected to school consolidations, including whether some unused campuses should be declared surplus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The board will consider declaring George Washington Carver Elementary and Hidden Oaks Elementary as surplus properties that are \u201cunsuitable and unnecessary for educational purposes,\u201d according to the agenda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Board members are also expected to vote on purchase and sale agreements for:<\/p>\n<p>Annie R.
