LOS ANGELES \u2014 Universal Studios released the first sneak peek\u00a0<\/a>at their latest high-speed attraction opening this summer \u2014 and this one is based off the “Fast & Furious” franchise<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n The rollercoaster, called the “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift,” will be the park’s first high-speed outdoor ride.\u00a0<\/p>\n “Featuring a groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual vehicles that creates a seamless sensation of drifting cars as they spin in motion at speeds up to 72 mph, this ride will let you experience the heart-pounding thrill of the Fast & Furious universe like never before,” Universal said in a statement<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Each car a rider sits in is inspired directly by the iconic styles featured in the movies. There are four seats per car, which are a souped-up, 900-horsepower 1970 Dodge Charger inspired by Dominic Toretto’s signature car in the franchise; the iconic Mazda RX-7, inspired by the 1997 model car driven by Han Seoul-oh; a Nissan Skyline GT-R, inspired by Brian O\u2019Conner\u2019s 2002 blue Nissan Skyline GT-R ; and finally a Toyota Supra, inspired by Brian O\u2019Conner\u2019s orange 1994 car featuring the legendary 2JZ-GTE twin-turbo inline-six engine. It’s one of the most memorable cars in the franchise.\u00a0<\/p>\n The ride spans roughly 4,100 feet track \u2014 the equivalent of nearly 12 football fields \u2014 and goes over sections of the theme park, including the multi-level escalator connecting the Upper and Lower Lots, according to Universal.\u00a0<\/p>\n Take a look at the car-inspired rollercoaster carts below:\u00a0<\/p>\n This ride is at Universal Studios in Universal City, California (near Hollywood, Los Angeles) but Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, is getting its own version with the same name in 2027.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n The ride will replace the former Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster and is designed to immerse guests in the high-speed world of Universal Pictures\u2019 \u201cFast & Furious\u201d universe.<\/p>\n According to Universal, the coaster will feature 360-degree drifting maneuvers and a towering 170-foot vertical \u201cspike\u201d that sends riders nearly 17 stories into the air above the outskirts of Universal CityWalk.<\/p>\n As part of the transition, Fast & Furious \u2013 Supercharged will permanently close at the park in 2027.<\/p>\n Universal said more details about the new attraction will be announced soon.
