MIAMI \u2014 Florida\u2019s average gas retail prices increased, but remain lower than the national average and lower than the highest recorded average price in 2022, according<\/a> to the nonprofit American Automobile Association. <\/p>\n

In the last week, the Florida average for regular unleaded increased about 22 cents, from $2.85 to about $3.07, according<\/a> to AAA\u2019s report on retail prices. The national average<\/a> on Monday was nearly $3.11, while the highest recorded was $4.89 on June 13, 2022. <\/p>\n

In Miami, there was an average increase of more than 10 cents per gallon of regular unleaded in a week. The average was about $2.87 for regular last week, and the current average increased to $3. <\/p>\n

In Fort Lauderdale, there was an average increase of about 15 cents per gallon of regular unleaded in the last week. Last week, the average was about $2.90, and it had increased to about $3.06. <\/p>\n

On Feb. 26, AAA reported a seasonal rise in gas prices was underway. It was attributed to refineries\u2019 summer-blend gas, which includes \u201cpricier additives to help reduce evaporation during warmer months,\u201d and the spring break season\u2019s increased demand. <\/p>\n

Florida gas prices tend to be lower than the national average, according<\/a> to AAA\u2019s database. Florida has low state fuel taxes, and it\u2019s close to refining hubs on the Gulf Coast. <\/p>\n

Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA, told reporters that the organization was monitoring the impact of the new war in the Middle East. <\/p>\n

\u201cAAA does not predict gas prices, and it is still too early to know how much of an impact rising oil prices will ultimately have at the pump. However, higher crude oil costs typically lead to higher gas prices, so we\u2019ll be watching the market closely over the coming days.\u201d<\/p>\n

The U.S. had been exerting control over Venezuelan oil<\/a> and sought forfeiture<\/a> of an oil tanker and 1.8 million barrels of crude oil \u201cthat supported Iran and Venezuela,\u201d when the strikes on Iran<\/a> started on Feb. 28. <\/p>\n

Global traders working with oil companies will determine wholesale crude oil prices, according<\/a> to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.<\/p>\n

Iran closed<\/a> the Strait of Hormuz, the world\u2019s most important oil transit chokepoint<\/a>, on March 2. According<\/a> to Kpler, a Brussels-based data and analytics firm, China and India are the most affected. <\/p>\n
