collision claimed the life of Young.<\/a> The 65-year-old was an attorney with her own firm in Cooper City.<\/p>\n\u201cThe insides of my car were dangling,\u201d Baker recalled. \u201cI felt moisture somewhere. The car was smoking.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI knew,\u201d Baker said quietly. \u201cIn the car. And I asked in trauma, when they were working on me. They said, \u2018We\u2019re doing everything we can.\u2019 And the next time I asked \u2014 God took her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Court records show Todorov appeared in bond court Wednesday, formally facing charges in connection with the fatal crash.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe crash resulted in the death of the passenger of the other vehicle,\u201d a judge noted during the hearing.<\/p>\n
Todorov\u2019s attorney, Jeffrey Grossman suggested she might have been cut off by Baker. <\/p>\n
\u201cMy client indicated to police that the other driver pulled into her lane in front of her,\u201d said Grossman. \u201cNow, I\u2019m not suggesting that my client was driving at a regular speed, but what I am suggesting is that my client did break as soon as this car pulled in front of her.\u201d<\/p>\n
But the Florida Highway Patrol crash report contradicts the assessment of a lane change. <\/p>\n
\u201cVehicle 2 (Baker) was traveling directly ahead of Vehicle 1 (Todorov). Vehicle 1 failed to slow and to keep a safe distance from traffic ahead,\u201d the report states. <\/p>\n
Todorov\u2019s arrest warrant indicates that she did hit her brakes, but just under two seconds before the crash.<\/p>\n
Baker says she\u2019s speaking publicly now because Young would\u2019ve wanted her to.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe asked me to,\u201d she said. \u201cAt her wake, people stood and applauded her for all that she has done. She was a good kid.\u201d<\/p>\n
