(BSO) <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  \u2014 A Fort Lauderdale man was arrested Thursday after authorities said he dropped off a severely emaciated dog to be cremated at a Wilton Manors veterinary clinic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Fort Lauderdale police said hospital staff at Arber Pet Hospital, located at 1220 NW 26th St., notified Wilton Manors police after removing the dog, Spike, from a taped-up box. Authorities said the dog showed signs of prolonged neglect.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A veterinarian who examined Spike found \u201cmatted hair throughout his body, consistent with not receiving proper grooming for months,\u201d according to an arrest report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The dog\u2019s teeth were diseased, with roots exposed, and part of the tissue on its tail was \u201cnecrotic,\u201d meaning the cells had died due to disease, injury, or lack of blood supply, the report states. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said Spike\u2019s hip bones and ribs were visible, and he was \u201cconsidered to be emaciated.\u201d The veterinarian determined the dog had suffered \u201cunnecessary pain and suffering for months prior to his death.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Authorities said Ronnie Tyrone Bulger, 57, was taken into custody on a charge of conservation of animals \u2014 torture causing pain that leads to serious injury or death. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He was held at the Broward Main Jail on $15,000 bond Friday afternoon and was ordered not to possess any animals.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udfe0 News From Your Neighborhood<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body__copyright\">Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com &#8211; All rights reserved.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Ryan Mackey\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/https:\/\/author-service-images-sandbox-us-east-1.publishing.aws.arc.pub\/wplginc\/8725e99c-e445-48a0-bd.jpeg\"  width=\"100\" height=\"100\"\/>Ryan Mackey <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-author-bio__author-description\">Ryan Mackey is a Digital Journalist at WPLG.
